US Marine Corps 242nd birthday ball held in Colombo
A special celebration to mark the 242nd birthday ball of the US Marine Corps was held at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo on 11th November. The event that was organized by the US Embassy in Sri Lanka was graced by its Ambassador Atul Keshap, as the Guest of Honour.
Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, Director Naval Land Operation, Commodore Udeni Serasinghe, Commanding Officer Sri Lanka Navy Marine Battalion, Commander Upul Wijayarathna and a host of naval officers were present on the occasion as special invitees. Sri Lanka Navy band and cultural troupe made the event more colourful with their dazzling performances.
Speaking on the occasion, the US Ambassador extended his special thanks to the Sri Lanka Navy band and cultural troupe for making the event more vibrant with their scintillating music and dance performances. Further, he pledged support to increase mutual cooperation, operational capabilities and training engagements in time to come, while providing continuous support for further development of the SLN Marine Battalion. He was also thankful to the Sri Lanka Navy for its contribution for the successful conduct of the event.
