Newly Constructed Rappel Tower Declared Open At SLNS Vidura Marine Headquarters
The newly constructed Rappel Tower at SLNS Vidura-Marine Headquarters was declared open by the Commander Eastern Naval area, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathna, RWP & Bar, RSP, USP, ndu, psc, MDS, MHS on the day of 4th anniversary of Marine battalion on 23rd March 2020, on the invitation of Commandant & Commanding officer of the Marine Training School.
This 55 feet height special platform which enhances the professionalism of the Marines at their tactical & advance training was fulfilling a long-standing need of the Sri Lanka Navy Marines. With this ceremonial opening, the SL Marines demonstrated the skill display of Skid Rappelling, Fast Rope Insertion and Extraction (FRIEs),& Rescue Mission by safely recovering a wounded person from the high rising building. Further, the proceedings of these events have been organized adhering strictly to safety and health guidelines declared by health authorities in the backdrop of COVID -19 pandemic.
